Nežka Prosenjak

Biography
Nežka Prosenjak is a Slovenian classical percussionist based in Switzerland, regularly performing as a soloist, orchestral musician, and chamber musician. At the age of nine, she began her musical journey at the local music school in Ravne na Koroškem, Slovenia, and continued her studies at the Conservatory of Music and Ballet Maribor, graduating in 2014. She subsequently pursued advanced studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz and the University of the Arts Bern, specializing in contemporary music, orchestral performance, and solo repertoire.
Recognized for her musical interpretation and virtuosity, she has received numerous awards, including First Prize at the Italian Percussive Arts Society International Competition (2017), First Prize at the MalletLab International Competition (2018), Third Prize at the IPI Marimba Competition in Aberdeen, Scotland, and Third Prize at Marimba Festiva Bamberg (2018). Earlier in her career, she was a finalist in the Slovenian Eurovision Competition (2014), won First Prize at the International Competition SVIREL, and received multiple prizes at national competitions in Slovenia (TEMSIG) and Italy (Povoletto). Her artistic development has been further supported through a scholarship awarded by the City of Graz (2018), the Young Artists Scholarship from the Ministry of Culture of Slovenia (2019), and selection for Migros-Kulturprozent's DoubleKlassik mentoring program (2025). Her performance career has also taken her to major international platforms, including TROMP Percussion and PASIC (Percussive Arts Society International Convention) in Indianapolis.
An active performer and educator, she regularly appears in concerts and masterclasses throughout Europe and beyond, with engagements in Slovenia, Austria, Germany, Italy, Croatia, Serbia, Scotland, Portugal, Spain, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and the United States. In 2019, she was selected as a member of The World Percussion Group and toured extensively across Europe with the ensemble. Since an early age, she has appeared as a guest soloist with renowned orchestras, including the RTV Slovenia Symphony Orchestra and the Swiss Orchestra.
She currently performs with ensembles and orchestras such as the Swiss Orchestra and the Bern Symphony Orchestra, where she completed an academy position during the 2021/2022 season. Prior to moving to Switzerland, she served as principal percussionist of the Orchestra of the Slovenian National Theatre Maribor for two seasons. Nežka is committed to expanding the percussion repertoire through commissioning new works by Ivan Trevino, Anna Ignatowicz-Glińska, Daniel Berg, Ruud Wiener, Veronika Reutz Drobnič, and other composers.
